Drop Zone Commander demo at the WarStore booth. The new hotness in the hobby. Everyone's abuzz about this game. The minis are amazing, I must say. Some of the best looking sculpts I've seen in a while, a solid anime/video game sci-fi look, all in a resin that holds detail impressively and is light enough to allow for some delicate looking vehicles to mount easily on flight stands. These models should look good with just some neat layers and a wash, but the detail should allow for some pretty impressive paintjobs at the higher end of the skill curve.
Rules-wise, the game's got nothing obviously new, just seemingly solid mechanics familiar to anyone who plays Warhammer of any flavor. D6 mechanic, individual dice wanting high, target numbers derived from comparing attack stat vs. defence comparison to hit, then weapon strength vs. armor comparison to 'wound', with some kinds of defenses modifying the to-hit roll and some (supposedly rare) things allowing a save vs. damage. Nothing new, but still solid, and easy to pick up for anyone with experience in other games. Demo's left me even more interested in this game, for sure.
